How Eye Exam Direct Billing Works

We deal with your insurance company so you don’t have to. As a direct billing optometrist in Calgary, we send your claim to your insurance company for you. Your plan decides what it covers, so what you pay depends on your coverage.

At our reception desk, we check your insurance before your exam starts. Bring your Alberta health care card and your insurance card if you have one.

Anything your plan doesn’t cover is paid at your visit.

Does Alberta Health Care Cover Eye Exams?

Alberta Health Care (AHCIP) covers routine eye exams for children and seniors. Here is how Alberta eye exam coverage works by age:

  • 18 and under: AHCIP fully covers one routine eye exam each benefit year.
  • 65 and older: AHCIP partly covers one routine eye exam each benefit year, and a copay applies.
  • Adults 19 to 64: Coverage depends on your plan. We direct bill the insurance companies listed above.

Alberta Health Care does not cover glasses or contact lenses. We also accept AISH coverage.
